The ProLab XL710-QDA1 Single 40GbE QSFP+ Server NIC is an enterprise-grade high-bandwidth Ethernet adapter engineered for data center infrastructure, virtualization environments, high-performance computing systems, enterprise storage platforms, and cloud-scale server deployments requiring ultra-high-speed network connectivity. Built around the Intel XL710-BM2 Ethernet controller architecture, the adapter delivers 40 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity through a PCI Express Gen3 x8 interface while supporting both QSFP+ Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cabling and optical transceiver deployments. The card is particularly suited for virtualization clusters, hyper-converged infrastructure, software-defined storage platforms, AI and analytics environments, media production systems, and low-latency enterprise networking applications where sustained high-throughput communication and advanced virtualization support are critical operational requirements.

The adapter operates over a PCI Express 3.0 x8 interface, providing sufficient upstream bandwidth to support full 40GbE throughput while minimizing bus-level bottlenecks during sustained high-bandwidth operation. Powered by the Intel XL710-BM2 controller, the card is optimized for enterprise networking environments requiring efficient packet handling, virtualization-aware traffic acceleration, and scalable network processing performance. The integrated QSFP+ interface supports both Direct Attach Copper Twinaxial cabling and optical transceiver modules, allowing flexible deployment across short-range rack-level interconnects and longer-distance optical networking infrastructures.

The networking subsystem supports both native 40GbE operation and breakout functionality through compatible QSFP+ breakout cabling. In standard configuration, the adapter supports 40GbE connectivity using QSFP+ DAC or optical transceivers, making it suitable for high-throughput backbone networking, storage fabrics, and high-performance server interconnects. Support for 4 x SFP+ breakout cable configurations enables the QSFP+ interface to operate as four independent 10GbE links, providing deployment flexibility for environments transitioning between 10GbE and 40GbE infrastructures. This flexibility allows enterprise administrators to optimize network topology while preserving compatibility with existing 10GbE switching environments.

Support for IEEE 802.3 40GBASE-SR4 and 40GBASE-LR4 standards enables deployment across multimode and single-mode fiber infrastructures depending on operational distance requirements. The adapter also supports SFF-8431 compliant 40G QSFP+ CR4 DAC configurations as well as 40G QSFP+ to 4 x SFP+ breakout cable implementations. Direct Attach Copper cabling support extends up to 10 meters, making the adapter particularly suitable for low-latency server-to-switch and server-to-server deployments within high-density data center racks and enterprise virtualization clusters.

The adapter incorporates advanced enterprise virtualization technologies optimized for software-defined networking and cloud infrastructure environments. Hardware-assisted network virtualization offloads support technologies including VxLAN, GENEVE, NVGRE, MPLS, and VxLAN-GPE with Network Service Headers (NSH), enabling efficient encapsulation and traffic segmentation while reducing CPU overhead on host systems. These virtualization capabilities improve scalability and network efficiency within hyper-converged infrastructures, multi-tenant cloud environments, software-defined storage platforms, and containerized application deployments where overlay networking architectures are heavily utilized.

Support for multiple interrupt mechanisms including INTA, MSI, and MSI-X further improves packet processing scalability and CPU efficiency within multi-core enterprise servers handling intensive network workloads. Combined with Intel’s enterprise Ethernet architecture, these technologies enable low-latency communication, optimized traffic distribution, and efficient workload balancing across demanding enterprise networking environments.

Broad operating system compatibility enables the adapter to integrate seamlessly into heterogeneous enterprise infrastructures. Windows Server compatibility includes Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and 2022 platforms, enabling deployment across modern virtualization hosts, enterprise storage systems, and cloud infrastructure environments. Linux support extends across Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.7 and 9.1, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5 and 15 SP4, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and 22.04 LTS, Debian 11, and FreeBSD 12.3 and 13. This broad platform compatibility allows deployment across virtualization infrastructures, software-defined networking platforms, AI and analytics clusters, and enterprise server environments operating within mixed operating system ecosystems.

From a physical deployment perspective, the adapter measures 167 mm x 69 mm and includes a pre-installed full-height bracket for standard rackmount server and enterprise workstation installations. An included low-profile bracket enables compatibility with compact server chassis and space-constrained enterprise systems. The compact single-port QSFP+ architecture allows high-bandwidth network expansion while maintaining efficient PCIe slot utilization within high-density server deployments.

The adapter is optimized for enterprise thermal environments and high-density data center operation. Minimum airflow requirements begin at approximately 150 LFM for standard operation, while deployments utilizing LR4 optical transceivers require elevated airflow depending on ambient operating temperature. Operational specifications include support for 55°C at 400 LFM, 50°C at 250 LFM, and 45°C at 150 LFM airflow conditions. These thermal requirements ensure stable operation during sustained high-bandwidth workloads within enterprise rackmount infrastructures and dense server deployments.

Power efficiency is maintained despite the high-bandwidth networking capability, with maximum power consumption rated at approximately 9.5 watts. Integrated LED indicators provide hardware-level visibility for link activity and negotiated connection speed. Dedicated indicators differentiate between 40Gbps and 10Gbps operation, simplifying deployment verification, diagnostics, and network troubleshooting procedures within enterprise environments.

Environmental specifications further support deployment within enterprise and industrial infrastructures. Operating temperature support ranges from 0°C to 55°C, while storage tolerance extends from -40°C to 70°C. Humidity tolerance supports up to 90% non-condensing relative humidity at 35°C, enabling dependable operation within demanding infrastructure conditions. Compliance with CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications confirms adherence to internationally recognized standards for electromagnetic compatibility, environmental safety, and enterprise integration requirements.

Overall, the ProLab XL710-QDA1 Single 40GbE QSFP+ Server NIC provides a scalable and professionally engineered Ethernet connectivity platform for enterprise systems requiring ultra-high-bandwidth networking, advanced virtualization acceleration, and flexible QSFP+ deployment capability. Its Intel XL710-BM2 controller architecture, PCIe Gen3 x8 interface, support for DAC and optical connectivity, breakout cable compatibility, enterprise virtualization offloads, and broad operating system support make it well suited for cloud infrastructures, enterprise storage environments, virtualization clusters, AI and analytics platforms, and high-performance data center deployments where dependable low-latency 40GbE network communication is essential.
