The ProLab XL710-QDA2 Dual 40GbE QSFP+ Server NIC is a high-performance enterprise Ethernet adapter engineered for data center infrastructure, virtualization clusters, cloud computing environments, high-performance storage systems, and bandwidth-intensive server deployments requiring scalable ultra-high-speed network connectivity. Built around the Intel XL710-BM2 Ethernet controller architecture, the adapter delivers dual-port 40 Gigabit Ethernet capability through a PCI Express Gen3 x8 interface while supporting both QSFP+ Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cabling and optical transceiver deployments. The card is particularly suited for hyper-converged infrastructure, enterprise virtualization platforms, AI and analytics clusters, software-defined networking environments, enterprise storage fabrics, and high-throughput server systems where low-latency communication and advanced network virtualization acceleration are critical operational requirements.

The adapter operates over a PCI Express 3.0 x8 interface, providing sufficient upstream bandwidth to efficiently manage simultaneous dual-port 40GbE traffic while minimizing bus-level bottlenecks during sustained workloads. Powered by the Intel XL710-BM2 Ethernet controller, the card is optimized for enterprise networking environments requiring scalable packet processing, virtualization-aware traffic acceleration, and efficient queue management across high-bandwidth data streams. The integrated dual QSFP+ interfaces support both Direct Attach Copper Twinaxial cabling and optical transceiver modules, enabling flexible deployment across short-range rack-level interconnects and long-distance optical networking infrastructures.

Each QSFP+ interface supports both native 40GbE operation and breakout functionality depending on the deployed cabling configuration. Standard QSFP+ DAC and optical transceiver configurations enable full 40GbE connectivity for high-throughput networking applications including storage fabrics, virtualization backbones, cluster interconnects, and data center aggregation networks. In addition, support for 4 x SFP+ breakout cable configurations allows each QSFP+ port to operate as four independent 10GbE interfaces, providing deployment flexibility for environments integrating both 10GbE and 40GbE infrastructure components. This capability simplifies phased infrastructure upgrades while maximizing interoperability with existing enterprise networking environments.

The networking subsystem supports IEEE 802.3 40GBASE-SR4 and 40GBASE-LR4 optical standards for multimode and single-mode fiber deployments, enabling integration into enterprise optical networking infrastructures depending on operational distance requirements. Support for SFF-8431 compliant 40G QSFP+ CR4 DAC configurations and QSFP+ to 4 x SFP+ breakout implementations further expands deployment flexibility across data center and enterprise networking topologies. Direct Attach Copper cabling support extends up to 10 meters, making the adapter particularly suitable for low-latency top-of-rack server connectivity and clustered infrastructure deployments within high-density data center environments.

The adapter incorporates advanced enterprise virtualization technologies designed for software-defined networking and cloud infrastructure deployments. Hardware-assisted network virtualization offloads support VxLAN, GENEVE, NVGRE, MPLS, and VxLAN-GPE with Network Service Headers (NSH), enabling efficient traffic encapsulation, segmentation, and overlay networking acceleration while reducing CPU overhead on host systems. These virtualization capabilities improve scalability and network efficiency within hyper-converged infrastructures, multi-tenant cloud platforms, software-defined storage environments, and containerized application deployments where virtualized networking architectures are extensively utilized.

Support for multiple interrupt mechanisms including INTA, MSI, and MSI-X further enhances packet processing efficiency and scalability within multi-core enterprise servers handling intensive network traffic. Combined with Intel’s enterprise Ethernet architecture, these technologies enable optimized throughput distribution, low-latency communication, and efficient workload balancing across demanding enterprise networking workloads.

Broad operating system compatibility allows the adapter to integrate seamlessly into heterogeneous enterprise infrastructures and high-performance server environments. Windows Server compatibility includes Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and 2022 platforms, enabling deployment across virtualization hosts, enterprise storage systems, and cloud infrastructure nodes. Linux support extends across Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.7 and 9.1, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5 and 15 SP4, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and 22.04 LTS, Debian 11, and FreeBSD 12.3 and 13. This broad operating system support allows deployment across virtualization clusters, software-defined networking environments, AI and analytics infrastructures, and enterprise server platforms operating within mixed operating system ecosystems.

From a physical deployment perspective, the adapter utilizes a compact PCIe board layout measuring 167 mm x 69 mm and ships with a pre-installed full-height bracket for standard enterprise rackmount server and workstation installations. An included low-profile bracket enables compatibility with compact server chassis and space-constrained enterprise systems. Despite supporting dual 40GbE interfaces, the card maintains efficient PCIe slot utilization while providing substantial aggregate network bandwidth suitable for high-density infrastructure deployments.

The adapter is optimized for enterprise thermal environments and sustained high-bandwidth operation. Minimum airflow requirements begin at approximately 150 LFM for standard operation, while deployments utilizing LR4 optical transceivers require higher airflow levels depending on ambient temperature conditions. Operational specifications include support for 55°C at 400 LFM, 50°C at 250 LFM, and 45°C at 150 LFM airflow conditions. These thermal characteristics ensure stable operation within high-density rackmount infrastructures and enterprise server environments operating under continuous network load.

Power efficiency remains an important characteristic of the adapter architecture, with maximum power consumption rated at approximately 9.5 watts despite supporting dual-port 40GbE connectivity. Integrated LED indicators provide hardware-level visibility into link activity and negotiated connection speed. Dedicated indicators differentiate between 40Gbps and 10Gbps operational modes, simplifying deployment validation, diagnostics, and troubleshooting procedures within enterprise networking environments.

Environmental specifications further support reliable deployment within enterprise and industrial infrastructures. Operating temperature support ranges from 0°C to 55°C, while storage tolerance extends from -40°C to 70°C. Humidity tolerance supports up to 90% non-condensing relative humidity at 35°C, enabling dependable operation within controlled data center environments and industrial networking platforms. Compliance with CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications confirms adherence to internationally recognized standards for electromagnetic compatibility, environmental compliance, and enterprise integration requirements.

Overall, the ProLab XL710-QDA2 Dual 40GbE QSFP+ Server NIC provides a scalable and professionally engineered Ethernet connectivity platform for enterprise systems requiring ultra-high-bandwidth networking, advanced virtualization acceleration, and flexible QSFP+ deployment capability. Its Intel XL710-BM2 controller architecture, PCIe Gen3 x8 interface, support for DAC and optical connectivity, breakout cable compatibility, enterprise virtualization offloads, and broad operating system compatibility make it well suited for cloud infrastructures, enterprise storage systems, virtualization clusters, AI and analytics environments, and high-performance data center deployments where dependable low-latency 40GbE network communication is essential.
